Two millennia of history

The name Greenwich is of Anglo-Saxon origin which shows that the arrival of the last millennium was celebrated here.  It was a time of great strife and early in this millennium at Easter in 1013 the Archbishop of Canterbury was murdered by an invading Dane force. A millennium before Romans lived on the site of Greenwich Park (where the Royal Observatory can be found).

To welcome in the next millennium the world's biggest dome is being constructed.  So whether you visit Greenwich in person on the Net or in person you can witness over 2,000 years of history.  Some of the most famous historic days in Greenwich history relate to the period during the reigns of Henry VIII and his daughter Queen Elizabeth I (both were born in the Royal Palace at Greenwich).
