Greenwich Meridian 2000

One Thousand Day Countdown

On Saturday 5 April 1997, the Thousand Day Countdown to the Year 2000 will commence.

Greenwich Meridian 2000™ is marking this historic event through a unique countdown, celebrated at the Royal Observatory Greenwich in Greenwich, home to the world's Prime Meridian and the international standard of .

Third parties are invited to participate in this run up to the millennium celebrations by becoming owners of a countdown day, and using these days to mark special occasions in their own history.

Days can be selected by date or by number. A national holiday would be selected by date; an anniversary could be either and a product related event generally by number.

Ownership of each day is to be marked by a framed certificate and entry into the Countdown Register, to be held at the Royal Observatory Greenwich. Owners are also entitled to use a special version of the Greenwich Meridian 2000 logo on any printed materials produced in relation to the day.

Uniquely, day owners will also have the opportunity to entertain friends and colleagues within the Royal Observatory Greenwich itself. This historic building by Sir Christopher Wren is to be made available to individuals and companies for entertainment use during the 1000 Day Countdown only.

For large scale parties, entertainment facilities may also be arranged at the Queens House or other buildings on the site.
