The 24-hour Millennium celebration of the planet’s peoples and cultures is expected to attract more than a half million revellers to Times Square and over 300 million television viewers worldwide.
Times Square hosts the largest, oldest and best known New Year’s Eve celebration in the world, marked by the 93-year-old tradition of lowering a ball atop One Times Square. Times Square welcomes millions of international visitors annually and is the home of many of the world’s most respected communications and entertainment companies.
Times Square 2000 will begin at 7 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, December 31, 1999, when the New Year arrives in the South Pacific. The celebration will continue until the New Year has been observed in all 24 time zones. Times Square 2000 will capture the best of popular, indigenous cultures, aiming to be inclusive and true to the integrity of the communities.
