Dear Prime Minister Greenwich 2000 - New Millennium Initiative Congratulations on your election to this high office. The challenges that lie ahead are large and vast but may we take this opportunity to remind you on the historic day you were elected that there 974 days left to the year 2000 and 1340 days left until the millennium, which officially starts on 1 January 2001. As you are aware Greenwich is the point on the globe that marks the world passing into the new millennium. A unique and momentous opportunity for the United Kingdom on the world stage. We have been developing Greenwich2000 on the internet. Greenwich 2000 is already firmly established and has welcomed over 250,000 visitors from over 120 countries in a few short months. It has received universal media coverage and won many awards and already brings more visitors to Greenwich electronically than arrive in person! Today are proud to announce a new initiative, the Greenwich 2000 Network. This is a private initiative building on the success of Greenwich 2000 and the vast number of enquiries we have received about the millennium celebrations. It is designed to enable all parties wishing to promote millennium celebrations, not only in Greenwich, but also throughout the United Kingdom and indeed the whole world, to be electronically linked together. Using the power of the internet, the new medium for the millennium, to effectively co-ordinate and promote all these activities universally. We are already working with a number of organisations associated with the millennium celebrations and are delighted to be able to extend our services to all parties who wish to ensure that the United Kingdom is recognised as being pre-eminent at this historic moment. This is privately funded initiative and not a request for Government funding. We shall be writing to various corporations and organisations involved in the millennium celebrations to invite them to participate in this initiative. We wish you well with your new administration.
Yours faithfully |
