Millennium Dome 6 December - New Year’s Eve

Winter Wonderland @ Millennium Dome Greenwich London

Millennium Dome set for one of Europe’s biggest ever Christmas events

London’s Millennium Dome is to play host to the one of the biggest Christmas events Europe has ever seen. Winter Wonderland 2003, which is supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, looks set to take the capital by storm. It will be packed with family entertainment including cutting-edge theme park rides, a giant Santa’s workshop, the largest temporary ice rink in the UK this Christmas and Cartoon Network’s Supercinema, characters and games.

Winter Wonderland offers magical attractions for little kids and big kids alike, all under one roof, including:

  • The 12 rides of Christmas – including a giant big wheel, log flume and a fantastic new inverted rollercoaster, the Tsunami, which drops, loops and twists at speeds of 55 mph and which has never been seen in London before! Other children’s favourites include a super-sized traditional carousel and a space train ride.

  • The UK’s largest temporary fully facilitated ice rink accommodating 300 people at any one time with access for disabled visitors - plus a kids’ skate zone exclusively free for the under 12s.

  • An enclosed giant screen Supercinema from Cartoon Network, the number one kid’s channel, showing favourite cartoons and the latest animated movies.

  • Santa’s Workshop - wander in amazement through a meandering starlit realm ending with a visit to Santa and a gift.

  • For the grown ups there’s the magic of a traditional German Christmas market complete with mulled wine. Also cafés, restaurants, a bar and retail exhibitors for tracking down that perfect present - Christmas shopping has never been so much fun!

Specially trained stewards and an army of Winter Wonderland helpers to look after the 250,000 expected visitors.

Winter Wonderland is being staged by Capital Entertainment Limited, formed by Elliot Hall, to promote the first in what will be a series of annual Winter Wonderland spectaculars. Elliot Hall is widely recognised as one of the country’s leading theme park operators having provided and promoted amazing theme parks across the world. He is also the man behind bringing the huge observation wheel which previously resided in the Champs-Elysee in Paris to Birmingham’s city centre.

Elliot comments:

“We know children love Christmas, and we wanted to bring that magic to life in what remains a fantastic entertainment facility. We are no strangers to staging successful events and we are confident that this super-value extravaganza will be the best yet.”

Winter Wonderland 2003 will highlight the capacity of the Millennium Dome as a state-of the art venue and the transport infrastructure of the Greenwich Peninsula. The Millennium Dome is operated by English Partnerships, the national regeneration agency.

Brian Roberts, English Partnerships’ head of operations at the Millennium Dome says: “We’re delighted Winter Wonderland 2003 is coming to the Millennium Dome—it’s a fantastic family event. London is one of the world’s great cities and the Millennium Dome one of the world’s iconic venues. This event gives us the opportunity to showcase the venue and highlight its potential as an exciting entertainment destination.”

The biggest free attraction at Winter Wonderland will be supplied by the number one kid’s channel, Cartoon Network. On entering the Cartoon Network area visitors will be greeted by characters including Johnny Bravo, Dexter, Dee Dee, Scooby Doo and The Powerpuff Girls.

At the centre of the fun will be Cartoon Network’s Supercinema, a giant screen showing favourite Christmas cartoons and movies. There’s also an animation studio, dance machines, karaoke, action adventure zones and loads more to keep kids of all ages entertained all day.

“Cartoon Network’s world famous characters will be coming out to play at Winter Wonderland providing a really memorable experience for every visitor.

We’re delighted to be at the heart of what promises to be a sensational family Christmas event,” says Richard Kilgarriff, head of Cartoon Network.
