Pub in the Millennium Dome

Greenwich, 29 April 1998

British beer will have a place at The Dome in plans that will mean that both The Dome and 'Baby Dome' will have licensed facilities where drink will be a themed feature.

The 'Latitude Bar' will serve the audiences of shows in 'Baby Dome' and will be accessible to visitors from The Dome and the Piazza. Another, provisionally dubbed 'Inn at The Dome' is intended to serve the best traditionally brewed and popular beers from Lands End to John O'Groats with food items typical of the best of the new style of pub food.

Ken Robinson, Operations Director NMEC, said 'With 12 million visitors, The Dome will be the biggest food and drink operation on the planet in 2000. We are confident that we can get the best in the business to provide our visitors with the range of food and drink that will appeal to all tastes.'

The New Millennium Experience Company has been negotiating with many catering companies including several who operate pubs. It is anticipated that several of these will bid to operate units on the site and it is likely that one or more will be selected as part of the overall mix of food and drink facilities. The Millennium Experience will feature 30 catering outlets ranging from snack bars to table service restaurants. Up to 80,000 meals a day will be served.

Notes:

  • 'Baby Dome' is a 5,000 seat auditorium for live events to be located next to the Millennium Dome.
