Greenwich from Coit Tower
Position: 37.8° North of the Equator; 122.4° West of Greenwich
Our journey starts at the Coit Tower. Standing high on a hill above San Francisco. It is a major land mark but local parking is limited!
See the of Greenwich (it is un-named) but marked by an +

The view from the Coit Tower is amazing. With complete vista of San Francisco - its hills, the bay, Alcatraz and, of course, the bridges including the magnificent Golden Gate bridge.

The island of Alcatraz - There's no escape!

Greenwich Street or "Greenwich" as it is known runs almost directly East-West and not North - South as does the Meridian Line!
Greenwich is the middle street in the photo. To the right is Lombard Street (the windiest street in the world) with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background.
Greenwich is a real roller-coaster of a street. As we will see in places it becomes a footpath before becoming a street again. If your every looking for a house on "Greenwich" find out which block its on otherwise it can be a real maze!

The first impressions are of a quiet residential street. Tree lined and clean but...

Only mad dogs and Englishmen...
Are the 'natives' friendly?

The houses often stand high up and can only be reached by steep steps. The cars (automobiles) have a habit of running away...

We are close to China Town and we come to a Chinese restaurant on the corner of Greenwich.
It has 2 clocks - must be local time and Greenwich Time....
Unfortunately not - it was local time and Hong Kong Time!

As we head west we can see the Transamerica pyramidal building a view blocks away.
We're on our way
Greenwich 500 is in sight ...

but where is Greenwich 2000?
