Scotland

Edinburgh - home of the world famous Hogmanay (New Year) celebrations have a huge sign on the Forth Railway Bridge - a great view when flying into Edinburgh Airport.

France

In Paris, France an enormous clock counts down on the Eiffel Tower (taken on St Valentines Day 1998 - 685 days on the clock!)

China

In China, the reported on 26 March 1998 that a countdown clock has been erected on the Great Wall of China!

The millennium countdown clock was erected on the 2,000-year-old Great Wall.   The clock was set up on the Badaling section of the wall, a popular tourist site in the north-west of Beijing. An inscription on the timepiece exhorts China to "seize the moment to build up the motherland."  The white clock is 5.8 metres tall with a red digital display and a base shaped like a part of the wall. The clock, made by a Chinese high-tech company, has a margin of error of less than one minute for every 30,000 years.
