EIFFEL TOWER CELEBRATION, ParisThe huge Millennial Clock on the Eiffel Tower will count down the last seconds of 1999 as a large crowd gathers in the Parc du Champ de Mars. At midnight a gigantic "egg" will be birthed by the tower; it will crack open to reveal a number of large video screens which will broadcast scenes from other millennial observances around the planet. Followed by a light and laser show. Other celebrations will take place along the Champs Elysees and the River Seine will be lit up in honor of the new century. MILLENNIUM CELEBRATION, VersaillesFor those looking to turn back the clock for the millennium, Gilded Age Tours offers guests the opportunity to bask in the monarchical opulence of pre-Revolutionary France with a decadent "royal" ball at the Palace of Versailles. Partygoers — who are urged to attend in period costume — will be treated to a fine international banquet, live baroque music and dancing, a tour of the palace and palace grounds, and a midnight fireworks extravaganza. Tour operators promise that Hollywood and French film stars will be in attendance.
