: The year 2000 presents a major opportunity for Québec,Canada and North America to promote global interest and understanding of the conservation needs for wetland and peatland resources. Four international networks of wetland and peatland resource users, policy makers, regulators, researchers and scientists:

the International Peat Society (IPS)
the International Association of Ecology (INTECOL)
the Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS)
the International Mire Conservation Group (IMCG).

Will all meet in Québec City, Québec from August 6-12 2000. Each organisation is hosting a congress or symposium inviting a global audience in that year. The separate organisations and a variety of additional wetland networks dedicated to wetland and peatland science, policy and sustainability are co-operating towards a Millennium Wetland Event. This will occur through the convergence of their separate meetings in time and space in the year 2000.

St. Lawrence Vision 2000

: The St. Lawrence Action Plan was launched in 1988. Ten years later the St. Lawrence is in better shape and measurable progress and results have been achieved in several major areas. The St. Lawrence Vision 2000 Action Plan partners have set up an Internet site in order to disseminate information on the St. Lawrence and Phase III activities.
