Whats New?

• Its now twelve months since Greenwich, England got its first web-site!!!

• 6 pages were launched on 1 January 1996 - One person signed the visitors log in January, two in February...

• On 1 April 1996 the site evolved into Greenwich2000

• The Visitors Log now fills two complete files every month with more & more countries signing each month. Originally most of our visitors came from the USA but more and more countries are arriving monthly. This month we had entries from Siberia and a number from all over South America

• There are well over 200 pages dedicated to Greenwich & The Millennium. Originally the idea was to build a thousand pages for the millennium. We have more than enough material already to fill those pages!! We are currently anticipating a site of 3,500 pages available for the Millennium. That is we intend to build a complete encyclopaedic reference on all aspects of Greenwich. To this end Grolier On-line are already using the site as a reference source. This sounds like a daunting task but there is so much historical material available that it will be feasible. Obviously we shall need some help on this mammoth project; more details will be available shortly.

• We are also starting to get media enquiries from around the Globe. We have already featured on Cable TV in Texas, IBM Net across the Globe and The Sunday Times in the UK. We have been invited to a coast-to-coast network show in the USA. A large number of journalists have also been making enquiries. The site will be featured in a number of newspapers around the globe.

• Browsers: We have designed the site to be used by any browser anywhere. An analysis of our logs reveals that 82% of our visitors use Netscape 2 or above. Some of the features on the site do not function correctly in Microsoft Internet Explorer 3. We are investigating this but the site looks great in Netscape versions 2 or 3.

• We have designed the site with fast downloads in mind. We have therefore used high speed, highly optimised servers hooked up by a 45 Meg link into the InterNet. Yes you did read this correctly - I.E. a link almost 1,000 times faster than the average 64k connection. But folks around the World are struggling on 14.4k modems on overloaded circuits. For that reason we have kept the site to text intensive. We are planning major 'multi-media' upgrades to be released as when there is band-width to see them to the average viewer.

• Canada has now firmly overtaken the UK into second place in the charts!

• We are pleased to welcome the to the Web. We have received a large numbers of enquiries from around the world enquiring when it would be available.

Millennium News - Keeps you up-to-date with News Events

Greenwich Millennium Events - Several new features including:

• Greenwich Reach - Bringing 50,000 tonne cruise liners to Greenwich

• Jubilee Line Extension - Bringing the Tube to Greenwich in 1998

Millennium Events around the Globe and UK

• New features being added regularly

A new weather service has also been added.
