Shaun Spiers MEP
Member of the European Parliament for Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich
A brief pen picture
Shaun has been MEP for Bromley, Bexley & Greenwich since 1994. He was born in 1962 and prior to becoming an MEP worked for the South East Co-op in Woolwich.
Shaun is Labour spokesperson in Institutional Affairs. He represents Labour views on how the European Union institutions, the Parliament, Council of Ministers, Commission and Court of Justice should work. Labour backs reform to make Europe more democratic and open.
He is also substitute member of the Agriculture Committee and concentrates on environmental, consumer and animal welfare issues on the Committee. As a member of the Rules and Privileges Committee Shaun has been responsible for drawing up proposals to regulate the influence of lobbyists over all party groups of MEPs. He is a member of the Delegation on South Africa.
He is also President of the Intergroup on the Third Sector. An international all party group of MEPs with a special interest in co-operatives, charities and mutual associations.
